  • WELCOME!

My philosophy of "Life, Laughter, and Love" was inspired by my wife when she had it engraved in my wedding ring, always there to remind me what's important. It's also what guides me to capture what I do, when I have a camera in my hand.

Friends will ask me if I consider it work, but I ask, how can it be? When I am blessed to be able to share such wonderful moments in peoples lives, to be shared forever, I can't call it work, but I can tell you it's the best job in the world. And I would love to share it with you!

Shauna and Phil had a wedding. The reception gave people a place to gather, but their family and friends brought the PARTY!  Threatened by a crazy flash storm, the outdoor wedding was in peril…until it passed, and the universe gave us a beautiful evening to laugh, celebrate, and dance the night away at the beautiful Greystone Golf Course , with a shout out to one of the coolest bartenders I know, Marty! (I promised he’d het a photo in here too!) Also of special note, Phil’s FATHER was the officiant for the wedding, and I can’t even begin to tell you the pride I could see in his eyes towards his son…what a beautiful ceremony he gave!

A HUGE congratulations to the happy newlyweds! Enjoy the photos, and don’t forget to tag your friends and hit “LIKE” over on the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography !

Jess and Cherie wanted to have a celebration… and BOY did they have one! It truly is a rarity to see a wedding SO perfectly matched with the couple from decoration on down to the surrounding area and the table settings. It was a wonderful day, surrounded by their awesome friends, and the gorgeous Indian Springs Metropark and Environmental center just added to the day! (They have an observatory down IN the pond! How cool is that?)

Not only do I consider them both friends of mine, but I couldn’t wish a BIGGER congratulations to the both of them! When I talked with them beforehand about what was most important to capture on their day, they both replied “all our friends and family” and you could feel that vibe the entire night.. not just a party, a celebration of the best things on earth, friends and family.

Just a sneak peek at the fun Flack family photo session we did at the Van Hoosen Farms in Rochester Hills!

Lots of laughs, a few cute babies, and a bunch of Moms with twinkles in their eyes – tons of fun! Enjoy the photos, and don’t forget to tag your friends and hit “LIKE” over on the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography !

Danielle and Mat came alllllll the way down from the Great White North (Brampton) to get married in Danielle’s hometown area… and the city felt the rumble from the party all over! From Essex to Windsor, and everything in between, the heat from the summer was nothing compared to the love between the happy couple, and everyone had a blast making sure they had one day to remember!

Wish the happy newlyweds best wishes, and don’t forget to tag your friends and hit “LIKE” over on the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography !

The Big day!

WOW! That’s the best word I can describe, of one of the most amazing wedding experiences I’ve had the honour of being a part of! From the beautiful ornate decorations and clothing, to the pure energy, love, and happiness, THIS wedding between Monica and Amit gave me a new definition to the word CELEBRATION!

We started at the salon with the bride, and quickly moved to the Baraat (the grooms wedding processional towards the bride!) with Amit on horseback, at the beautiful Genesys Banquet Hall in Grand Blanc Michigan!
I would wish the happy couple the best of luck, but since they’ve known each other since they were children, I highly doubt they need it…not when the fates seemed to have plans for them all along! Married life is considered an opportunity for two people to grow from life partners into soul mates, and I saw it for myself that night!

A BIG thank you for the awesome Stacie Lech Piotrowski for second shooting with me that day, she rocks as well! Enjoy the photos, feel the vibrance from them, and don’t forget to hit “LIKE” over on the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography !
