  • WELCOME!

My philosophy of "Life, Laughter, and Love" was inspired by my wife when she had it engraved in my wedding ring, always there to remind me what's important. It's also what guides me to capture what I do, when I have a camera in my hand.

Friends will ask me if I consider it work, but I ask, how can it be? When I am blessed to be able to share such wonderful moments in peoples lives, to be shared forever, I can't call it work, but I can tell you it's the best job in the world. And I would love to share it with you!

Vanessa and Michael got married…and a party broke out!

I probably had one of the most fun times EVER shooting with this crew, and I think the photos show it! There was so much affection, good times, and love flowing (a few drinks too!), I am betting they could have rode the party bus around all night and still had the best time!

Wish the happy couple all the best, and don’t forget to TAG all your friends in the photos over on the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography !

I had the pleasure of meeting Kristin and Tom at a fantastic wedding almost 2 years ago, so when they called me up to be a part of the festivities for their turn, I couldn’t be happier!

We took a little trip to Belle Isle, and finished off downtown Detroit at the awesome Hart Plaza, and you can tell by her beautiful smile – these two are head over heels for each other! Don’t forget to “LIKE” the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography !

Christen and Andrew came with me one night to beautiful Belle Isle, Michigan to take some engagement photographs – and what a beautiful evening we had!

The blooms were out, the future-bride was smiling her gorgeous smile, and we had a great time sharing their smooches with each other. Wish the happy couple all the best in their upcoming wedding, and don’t forget to “LIKE” the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography !

Stephanie and Rob asked me to just do engagement photos with them last September, and we had a ball! We talked about a lot of stuff, but when they mentioned they were getting married in Mexico, I jokingly said to them, “Hey, just bring me along, I would love to share that experience with you!” and with a glint in their eye, they said “Hey, we just might!” Fast-forward a few months, and I get an email asking me to do just that – come along and share their wedding in sunny Cancun!

I jumped at the chance, as I had ALWAYS wanted to do a “Destination Wedding”, and hey, escaping Michigan for a few days wouldn’t exactly HURT now would it? Little did I know, what a BLAST that would be had with them, and their entire wedding party….

Right from the moment I got off the plane, Rob and Stephanie’s friends and family took me in as one of their own, and what a fantastic group of people to share a tropical paradise with, at the Gran Caribe Real, in Cancun Mexico! We sat around the pool enjoying the sun, went parasailing in shark-infested waters (the beach was closed the day before for a shark sighting – Yikes!), and braving a Mexican marketplace – all in the day before the wedding! I honestly felt like I was there with friends and family I had known for a long time, and I couldn’t thank them enough for the experience.

Then, the wedding day arrived. Breakfast with the groom, salon with the bride, poolside with the wedding party, it was a day to remember! Through all the sun, sweat, laughter, sunburn, and amazing hospitality, Rob and Stephanie got to share the wedding of their dreams, right on the beach with an Ocean breeze through their hair, ending the perfect day with a perfect full moon over the crystal waters in the background; it was in every way, a tropical dream!

Congratulations to the happy couple, and I can’t WAIT to share these images with them, with you, and everyone who is even thinking about getting married in paradise…Just remember, you can have a stranger at the resort capture their job-required 30 or 40 images of your wedding, or you can bring someone along who will steal a coconut RIGHT off a tree for the groom’s Mom who REALLY wanted one, (True Story) or share a pack of Cuban Cigars with you because you’d never HAD a real cuban. (and as it turns out, thanks to the shysters at the market who sold us fakes, you STILL probably haven’t…haha!). The point is, think about bringing someone along to share the experience with you…you will be glad you did!

Enjoy! Bueno!

Andy Owen - WOW, the silhouette shot on the deck/pavilion…just a BEAUTIFULLY composed shot! One of those “everything went right” pictures. This looks like a great time, gorgeous work as always sir! …and now I want a cigar.ReplyCancel

Erynne and Josh came with me to the beautiful Downtown Rochester, MI area to capture a few photos celebrating their engagement…and I HAD to admire their willingness to do whatever I asked them to. Play in traffic? Sure! Roll up your pants and hop in the river? Why not! With a smile like Erynne’s, no matter where I put them, it outshone all surroundings.

Wish the happy couple good luck on their upcoming wedding, and don’t forget to “LIKE” the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography !

Monica and Amit and I travelled to a place that holds a lot of personal reflection for them…the Michigan State Campus in East Lansing! It’s where they met, it’s where they fell in love, and it’s where he proposed to her. And we had a lot of fun that night enjoying the trip down memory lane! (as well as a few hundred mosquito bites – What do you put in your river Michigan State? Your mosquitos are vicious!)
