  • WELCOME!

My philosophy of "Life, Laughter, and Love" was inspired by my wife when she had it engraved in my wedding ring, always there to remind me what's important. It's also what guides me to capture what I do, when I have a camera in my hand.

Friends will ask me if I consider it work, but I ask, how can it be? When I am blessed to be able to share such wonderful moments in peoples lives, to be shared forever, I can't call it work, but I can tell you it's the best job in the world. And I would love to share it with you!

Mary and Danny’s wedding defined the word PARTY this beautiful autumn day out in GORGEOUS Grosse Ile Michigan, at the Grosse Ile country Club! With beautiful bridesmaids, and mischievous groomsmen, I sure had my hands full this day, and everyone had a BLAST in the process, (and we didn’t get kicked off the golf course for playing in their sand traps!)

Ross Sandelius - Awesome set! The couple must be super happy with their photos. I especially loved the bride’s getting-ready mirror shot and the shot in the sand-trap… great ideas!ReplyCancel

Angela and Garth are STILL one of the most fun couples I had the privilege of photographing on their wedding day….so what better way to celebrate their ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY than heading to the place that meant SO much to them – Chicago! Why should all the “engaged” couples have all the fun??

Now I love Chicago something fierce, so the chance to tour around it with two awesome people and my camera was something I jumped at – and I think you can see from the photos that we had a blast! From the “touristy” Millenium Park witht the “silver bean” (there were zombies randomly walking around – weird!) to my FIRST experience with the tasty Jamba Juice, it was great getting shown around by two people who fell in love there, both with the city, AND each other!

Cynthia and I used to work together in my former life of I.T. support over in Canada, so it was a big honour to be able to share her wonderful wedding day to Wilson! I’ve shot many weddings, but there is just something extra fun about one where you know so many of the guests there, and to say that night was a blast was putting it lightly!

I couldn’t be happier for the happy couple, and I would LOVE if you would hit ‘LIKE’ and leave them some comments or congratulations over on the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography !

Gord and Shannon are longtime friends of mine, and it was a HUGE honour to have them ask me to take some family photos of their two beautiful kids and them! One requirement? TRAINS! So we found a cool historic train yard in the heart of Essex, Ontario, and had some fun for as long as the little guys would let us! (translation for anyone without kids, about an hour).

Enjoy some smiles, mohawks, and trains, hit ‘LIKE’ to leave them some comments over on the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/derekcooksonphotography !

Elaine is one of the sweetest and intelligent people I have had the absolute pleasure of meeting in the wedding business, and her now husband Warren is a pretty cool guy on his own right! To say I was honoured to have shared their special wedding day at the Henry Ford Museum is an understatement! The pressure was on that night, as I know Elaine is a photography nut as well so I wanted to really wow them, and brought along my talented friend Melissa Gregersen (who drove from Grand Rapids just to come shoot with us!) to be my secret weapon! With total free-run of the museum grounds, and a ton of beautiful family and friends, the challenge wasn’t finding great thigns to shoot, it was finding everyone scattered throughout the place! It’s huge, and if you haven’t had a chance to visit it, it is awesome!

All in all, it was a beautiful night at the museum, a ton of laughs, a couple in love, and one of the icons of Detroit as our backdrop – who could ask for anything more?
